Japanese kintsugi repair was originally developed to mend broken ceramics using natural urushi lacquers. Wood and stone are also possible to repair; however, epoxy is generally the easiest and quickest method for fixing broken glasses.

 

If you wish to perform a glass kintsugi, you should use a special urushi lacquer that is meant for glassware. Glassware kintsugi is incredibly challenging for beginners and should not be attempted without experience. We strongly recommend that you practice a standard kintsugi before moving on to glass repair.

 

NOTICE: Thin glasses and those with mug handles and wineglass stems are NOT repairable for future use. The bonded surface where the glue must be applied is not large enough. However, such glasses can be repaired for ornamental purposes.
